European Oak at Full Expression
AM-04 is a 190mm wide long plank engineered oak floor in a natural brushed oil finish, designed to showcase European oak in its most expressive and authentic form. The 14/3mm three-layer construction features open knots, vivid swirling grain, flowing medullary figure, and strong colour variation ranging from pale sapwood edges to deep amber-honey heartwood. On the wide planks, the natural grain patterns develop fully, creating unique flame and oval figures where the grain bends and flows around knots — making every board visually distinct.
The open knots are a defining characteristic of the grade, representing the natural growth history of the tree rather than imperfections. Stabilised with resin during production, they add depth and authenticity to the floor’s appearance. Finished with penetrating natural oil, AM-04 retains the raw texture and tactile feel of genuine European oak without heavy surface coating or artificial sheen. Yes -- AM-04 has a 3mm solid oak wear layer supporting 2-3 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan.

The resin fill used in character-grade engineered flooring is designed to be durable, flexible, and sympathetic in colour to the surrounding wood. Knot zones are slightly harder than surrounding wood once resin-filled. Under normal use, they are no more vulnerable to wear or damage than the rest of the board surface. Over decades of heavy use, the resin fill can occasionally need refreshing -- this is part of the long-term maintenance of a character-grade floor.
