Dark Elm 90mm Chevron Engineered Flooring Natural Oil Embossed 16/6mm — EL-07
Dark Elm 90mm Chevron Engineered Flooring Natural Oil Embossed 16/6mm — EL-07
EL-07 is a 90mm narrow chevron engineered elm floor in CD natural character grade, embossed and finished with natural oil: 16/6mm multi-layer construction with a 6mm solid elm wear layer, tongue-and-groove full-spread adhesive glue-down installation. EL-07 shares the same core specification as EL-06 — elm species, 6mm wear layer, CD grade, embossment, natural oil, T&G chevron — but at 90mm board width rather than 125mm. This single dimensional change transforms the character of the floor entirely. At 90mm, the chevron arrow repeats with far greater frequency across the floor plane: the V-apex multiplies across the room like a woven textile, creating a densely patterned geometric field where the pattern is the dominant visual event rather than the individual board. Elm's dark, complex natural oil colour and the embossment's raised grain texture read across this dense 90mm chevron field as an exceptionally rich, layered material surface — a floor that reads as both architecturally precise and organically textured simultaneously.

Stave Dimensions
 90mm × 510mm — 90mm wide chevron board; 510mm long; both ends cut at 45°; 5.67:1 length-to-width ratio; supplied as matched left-hand and right-hand mirror boards
Pattern
Chevron (Arrow Parquet) — angled board ends meet at centre line at a perfect continuous V-point; at 90mm, the chevron repeat is fine and dense, multiplying across the floor as a rhythmic, interlocking geometric field
Colour
Dark Elm — deep chocolate-brown to rich dark espresso-russet; elm's naturally high and reactive tannin content produces a dramatically darker colour response to natural oil than oak; the dark tone varies subtly across CD grade boards as tannin concentration varies — from deep chocolate to darker espresso in high-tannin grain intersections; under warm artificial light reads as rich, warm dark chocolate; in raking or directional light the embossed grain adds lighter ridge highlights against the dark ground

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Dark Elm at 90mm — The Dense Chevron Field
EL-07 and EL-06 share the same specification in every respect except board width. But 90mm versus 125mm is not a minor dimensional difference — it is the difference between two entirely distinct visual experiences of the same material.
At 125mm (EL-06), each elm board presents a relatively wide face of dark grain, and the chevron arrow has substantial individual boards that read as distinct planks within the V-field. The pattern is bold and clear; the individual board is still visible as a material unit.

At 90mm (EL-07), the boards are narrow enough that the eye perceives the pattern geometry rather than the individual boards. The V-apex repeats with high frequency — at 90mm, approximately twice as many V-repeats appear across a given room width as at 125mm. The accumulated effect of this dense repetition is a floor that reads as a richly patterned field, almost textile in quality: the dark embossed elm surface multiplied across a fine, rhythmic chevron grid. From across the room, EL-07 reads as an intensely patterned dark floor of exceptional material complexity. From close range, each individual 90mm elm board reveals its own dark grain composition beneath the embossed texture and the deep natural oil.

This is the design logic of EL-07: the narrow format does not diminish the elm's character — it multiplies it, distributing the dark embossed grain across a denser geometric field and creating a floor that is visually richer in pattern and material simultaneously.

Elm's unique grain on a 90mm chevron board. Elm's interlocked, swirling grain structure is particularly effective at 90mm. On each narrow board, the grain's swirling reversals and tight ripple figure read as a complex, individuated pattern within a small 90mm face. In the installed chevron field, where alternating left-hand and right-hand boards place opposing grain directions at each V-joint, the embossed grain ridges catch light from different angles in adjacent boards — creating a fine alternating highlight-and-shadow contrast at every V-apex that adds visual depth to the dense dark chevron field in directional light.
Design Guide
EL-06's dark chocolate elm, embossed grain texture, 125mm chevron geometry, and natural oil depth place it in the most dramatically characterful and design-confident interior contexts.
Industrial & Urban Loft
EL-07 is the floor for industrial and loft interiors. The dense dark chevron field and embossed elm grain reference antique factory timber flooring with precision — the narrow V-repeat and dark colour read as a pattern that belongs in a converted warehouse or urban loft. Works with exposed brick, steel, concrete, and black metal fixtures.
Dark Moody & Atmospheric
Against intense wall colours, EL-07's dense dark pattern creates a floor of exceptional depth and complexity. In candlelight or warm artificial light, the embossed grain adds a shimmer of lighter ridge-highlights across the dark V-field. The 90mm density makes the pattern more visually present than a wider chevron against saturated colours.
Heritage Artisan
The elm species, 6mm wear layer, embossment, and narrow chevron format together produce a floor of genuine artisan heritage character — a material that reads as the product of skilled craft rather than industrial manufacture. In heritage and artisan interiors, EL-07 is authentically at home.
Installation & Room Suitability
T&G Glue-Down — Chevron Requirements
· Full-spread flexible adhesive approved for engineered elm chevron parquet
· Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum
· Subfloor moisture: ≤4% MC (timber) or ≤3.5% CM (concrete)
· Expansion gap: minimum 10mm at all walls
· Acclimatisation: 48 hours in installation space before laying
· Left/right boards: packed separately and clearly labelled
· V-apex centre line: establish precisely before laying — dark surface makes any misalignment immediately visible
· Qualified parquet specialist: essential for elm chevron
Underfloor Heating
Compatible — maximum 27°C surface temperature. Glue-down T&G is most thermally stable for chevron over UFH. Allow 7-day adhesive cure before activating UFH. Maintain 45–60% RH year-round. Natural oil over UFH requires consistent humidity management.

Notes
Living Rooms (all sizes)
Exceptional
At 90mm, EL-07 is effective at all room scales. In smaller rooms the fine repeat expands the apparent floor area; in large rooms the dense pattern creates a rich material ground. The dark embossed elm reads as dramatically characterful at all distances.
Industrial & Loft Interiors
Exceptional
EL-07's dark, dense, embossed elm chevron is a defining floor for industrial-aesthetic and loft interiors. The narrow V-repeat and dark elm colour together create a floor of exceptional material intensity and artisan character.
Dark Moody Interiors
Exceptional
Against deep wall colours, EL-07's dark chocolate elm creates an enveloping material ground. The dense 90mm V-field adds pattern complexity that a long-plank dark floor cannot provide.
Heritage & Artisan Spaces
Exceptional
The elm species, natural oil depth, embossment, and narrow chevron format together produce a floor that references historic artisan craftsmanship — antique parquet in dark elm, reimagined in engineered format.
Entrance Halls
Excellent
Narrow 90mm chevron in dark elm creates an immediate material statement in an entrance hall. The V-point directs the eye; the dense dark pattern is dramatic from the moment of entry.
Dining Rooms
Excellent
Dark elm conceals dining marks; natural oil requires prompt spill response. Embossed texture in candlelight is exceptional.
Bedrooms
Excellent
Dark elm at 90mm creates an enveloping, rich bedroom floor. The pattern adds visual interest at bedroom scale. Natural oil requires periodic re-oiling maintenance.
Kitchen (dry zone)
Good with care
Natural oil less water-resistant than lacquer. Dry zone only. Strict spill protocol at chevron V-joints.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for wet environments.
Care & Maintenance
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head. Dark floors show light dust and lint readily. At 90mm with dense chevron joints, there are many more joint lines per m² than on long-plank or wider chevron — sweep across the pattern direction to clear joint lines effectively. Embossed grain channels collect grit; vacuum with soft brush attachment.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral natural oil floor cleaner only. No steam mop. No standard household cleaners. No standing water.
Spills
Wipe immediately. Natural oil less water-resistant than lacquer. At the dense 90mm chevron V-joints, remove spills before they penetrate joints and reach the adhesive bed.
Chevron V-joints
Do not fill or caulk. Clean with soft vacuum brush along joint direction. At 90mm, there are more joints per m² — regular joint cleaning is more important than on wider formats.
Periodic re-oiling
Re-oil every 1–3 years. Use a dark or neutral maintenance oil — do not use light, amber, or warm-toned oils that will shift the dark colour. Apply thinly across full board face including embossed channels; allow 15–20 minutes; buff off excess.
Never
Steam mop · standing water at joints · light or warm-toned maintenance oils · filling V-joints · machine sanding without specialist guidance for elm's interlocked grain.

FAQ
Q1. What is the difference between EL-07 and EL-06?
EL-07 and EL-06 are identical in every specification — species (elm), thickness (16/6mm), grade (CD), surface (embossment), finish (natural oil), installation (T&G chevron) — except board width. EL-06 is 125mm wide; EL-07 is 90mm wide. At 90mm, the chevron V-repeat is finer and more densely multiplied across the floor plane, creating a textile-like pattern field. At 125mm, the V-repeat is bolder and each board face is more compositionally visible. Choose EL-07 for a dense, intricate, pattern-dominant floor; choose EL-06 for a bolder, more architectural wide-board chevron.
Q2. Why is elm different from oak for this specification?
Elm's interlocked, swirling grain structure and higher reactive tannin content produce a fundamentally different result from the same treatments applied to oak. Natural oil on elm produces a much darker, richer colour than on oak — the deep chocolate-to-espresso tone of EL-07 is elm's own natural colour response to oil, not a stain. Embossment on elm follows elm's more complex swirling grain topography, creating a more varied relief pattern than the predominantly straight grain ridges of embossed oak. The combination makes EL-07 visually more dramatic and tonally deeper than any equivalent oak product.
Q3.  How does the 90mm narrow format affect installation waste?
Allow a minimum 12–15% waste for EL-07. The 45° angled board ends create larger perimeter off-cut waste than square-ended long-plank or herringbone boards. At 90mm, the narrow boards also mean more boards are needed per m², and any misalignment in the V-apex spine is quickly amplified across the dense repeat. Your qualified parquet installer can calculate room-specific waste requirements.
Q4.  Can EL-07 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — EL-07 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH at a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Glue-down T&G installation is the most thermally stable format for chevron over UFH. Allow 7 days for adhesive cure before activating UFH. Maintain indoor humidity at 45–60% RH year-round.
Q5.  How do I maintain natural oil on dark elm chevron?
Re-oil every 1–3 years with a dark or neutral maintenance oil — this is critical for dark elm; a warm-toned or amber maintenance oil will shift the dark chocolate colour toward brown over successive re-oiling cycles. Daily dry sweeping is especially important at 90mm chevron because the high density of V-joints means more lines where debris can accumulate. Immediate spill response at all chevron joints.
Q6.  What is the minimum order for EL-06?
The standard minimum order for AMUER EL-07 is 200 m² per SKU. Free samples available — email amuer@amuerflooring.com
